French Polynesia

French Polynesia consists of five great archipelagos, the Society, Austral, Tuamotu, Gambier, and Marquesas islands. Together the 35 islands and 83 atolls of French Polynesia total only 3,543 square kilometer (half the size of Corsica) in land area and yet they are scattered over a vast area of the South Pacific of the size of Europe.

For the crew of the SuAn French Polynesia is one of the very high lights of the journey. After we arrive first to the Marquesas where sharply crenellated mountains rise hundreds of meters we visit the Tuamotus. There the coral reefs hardly reach over the sea level and the palm trees are the highest elevation. Subsequently our cruise takes us to the Society Islands and some famous islands like Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea, which are the combination from high volcanic peaks framed by low coral rings.

In all, French Polynesia is one of the varied and spectacular scenery in the entire South Pacific.
