Since we’re already on the road with a rental car—due to our outboard motor—we’re taking the opportunity to make a detour to Baltimore, a small coastal village about 80 kilometers away. Nestled in a deeply indented bay and home to just under 500 residents, Baltimore exudes a unique charm from the very first glance.

Before possibly visiting with our yacht SuAn at a later time, we want to get a sense of the local anchoring and mooring options. There’s no marina to be found here, and the sheltered part of the bay is dotted with numerous private mooring buoys. Notably, there are hardly any foreign yachts in sight—the area appears to be frequented mainly by locals.

Baltimore also serves as a gateway to Sherkin Island, which lies just across the water. Several hiking trails invite visitors to explore the surrounding landscape, most notably the path to the striking Baltimore Beacon. This prominent sea mark is a key navigational landmark for vessels approaching the village from the open sea.
