Micronesia is a huge territory in the West of the Pacific and stretches between the Philippines and Hawaii. About 2000 islands are belonging to seven different states, which are clockwise from Hawaii: Kiribati, Nauru, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Palau, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Marshall Islands
.
The Federated States of Micronesia include over a distance of 1800 miles from East to West four states: Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk and Yap with total 607 islands and 271 sq miles (705 sq km) land area. Only 65 are inhabited with a total population of 106,500 .

Pohnpei is the biggest and most important state of FSM with an area of 129 sq miles (335 sq km) and 34,700 inhabitants. Besides the island Pohnpei belong eight outer atolls to the state which are reaching a distance of 445 miles (720 km).
