Half an hour later the officer from Bio security has arrived. We are aware that New Zealand enforces very strict rules to keep invasive species off the island. We had prepared the declaration form for restricted food and natural products on SuAn in advance as well. The list contains quite a few items like dried and canned meat, vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, honey and all fresh produce. Even though we tried very hard to finish everything on our way to New Zealand, we had to surrender and could not finish everything. To our surprise, most of the items we could keep and only a very few had to go in to the Bio hazard container.
The quarantine officer also checks our bicycles, carvings, shells and looks in the empty fridge, cupboards and cabinets. Since SuAn´s hull looks clean there are no more questions about hull cleaning. He does not want to see our hull cleaning log.
Both officers are extremely friendly and polite and their work is very efficient. It takes about one hour from docking at the customs dock until we are cleared in and continue traveling towards Whangarei.
