We have to check-in with the officials. Isky, a local tour guide, is helping us to guide us through the process. The officer from Quarantine comes on board, than we can go ashore and must buy a visa on arrival for 33 US$ p.P. After that Immigration checks us in and stamps our documents and passports. Stamps are very important here and also we need to use our boat stamp on the documents. Unfortunately Customs is not available anymore and Isky helps us to visit Customs and harbor master the next day.
Meanwhile we are exploring the little town, which is mainly built on stilts along the shore line. Hundreds of boats are docked everywhere and it I a busy port, especially for all the little taxi boats, which are taking the people from island to island. The roads are narrow and everyone has a motor scooter. Only very few trucks are on the island and are mainly used for logistics.
The population consists of 60% Muslim, 20% Buddhist and 20% Christians. Several mosques and a big Chinese temple are dominant in the bay. We feel very welcome here. People are friendly and interested of our journey.
The anchorage is quite good protected from the southern winds, but with 25-30 m quite deep. But the anchor holds well in mud, as long we don´t anchor on the corals which are close to the eastern shore.
