Cycling at the Ninety Miles Beac

The Ninety Miles Beach is located at the west coast of New Zealand´s very North. Actually the beach is ”only” 88 km or 55 miles long but at low tide reaches a width of 100 to 200 meters. Since the sand is very hard it is officially part of New Zealand´s highway system. So occasionally a car is speeding by.

After bumping along the gravel road towards the beach on our bicycles it is a pleasure to cycle along that hard sandy beach with beautiful white cupped waves breaking in the shallow waters. After a few kilometers toward North we have some nipples, a short bath and than we have to fight our way back against the wind.
